Risk of Travelling in Osaka

. . . . . . .   ✈️   ✈️   ✈️   . . . . . . .

When talking about the RISKS of travel, most of the times people consider what might present a risk to them and try their best to prevent it. HOWEVER, sometimes, tourists’ presence may present to other people, cultures, or environments as risks.

. . . . . . .   ✏️   ✏️   ✏️   . . . . . . .

This week I will talk about how tourists in Osaka or Japan

may present a risk to the local environment.

 . . . . . . .   👘    👘   👘   . . . . . . .

🍃🌼🍃  Japan’s culture is extremely different from that of western countries, and even from other Asian countries. Offending others is regarded as extremely rude and undesirable.

🔥 🙅‍♀️🔥 There are many things strictly considered to be offending to Japanese, while those may not be a case to people from other countries.

. . . . . . .   To name a few:   . . . . . . .

1.     Blowing your nose.  👃💨 . . . . . . . . . . . . .

While some people think blowing nose

in the public is normal behaviour,

most Japanese

will go to the bathroom to do it” (Schimke, 2015).

           . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

2.     Talking and laughing loudly.   💬💬   📞 . ☎️ 🗣 📲 🎙 .

People from some countries prefer to speak loudly

Though it is easy to get excited

 when travelling in Japan,

a high volume would definitely OFFEND others,

such as riding the Shinkansen.

3.     Making out in public          🍃 💐... 🌼🌸🌺... 💐 🍃 💙 🍃 💐... 🌼🌸🌺... 💐 🍃

While young couples

like to embrace each other during their honeymoon in Japan,

showing too much affection in public

in Japan are not seen as romantic

It is considered to be very private.

4.     Eating on the go when you’re in Japan.    🚶‍♀️🍔 🚶‍♂️ 🍕🚶‍♀️  🥞 🚶‍♂️ 🌮🚶‍♀️

In Japan, people don’t eat or drink on the go (Putinja, 2019).

Fast food at street stands is

eaten standing up in a designated area

Drinks bought from vending machines are also consumed right after,

with the can be tossed in the bin next to the machine.

Also, eating or drinking on public transport is

considered impolite and rude.

. . . . . . .   ✏️   ✏️   ✏️   . . . . . . .

✍️  Besides, there are many “unwritten rules” like these that travellers have to know beforehand so as not to present themselves as a risk to locals.

To minimise the risks, travellers had better browse widely the websites like “13 Things You Should Never Do in Japan”, “10 Things That Are Rude to a Japanese But Not to You”.

And keep in mind, avoid doing these things in public places.
